About

The Shop

Studio Kampina has a storefront located at 140 Metcalfe Street, Elora, Ontario, Canada. Our shop contains all the goodies you see online and then some.

The Studio

At Studio Kampina we design, tailor and upcycle outdated vintage and secondhand attire to create contemporary clothing for women and men. Each garment has been hand selected with great consideration for quality, material and pattern. We create silhouettes with a modern fit and vintage feel. Each piece in the collection is either upcycled and completely one of a kind, unaltered vintage or made from scratch using consciously selected natural materials.

The goal is to elongate the life of quality retro clothing and design unique pieces that make the customer feel good. We are passionate about reducing textile waste so part of our practice includes collecting, repurposing and recycling all scrap materials generated. Each piece from  Studio Kampina was made/altered in Elora, Ontario, Canada.

The Process

Each pre-loved garment is handpicked, chosen depending on colour, pattern, material and where/when it was made. If it’s a good quality piece we nab it and start to envision what it could become. After it’s purchased, the garment is washed and hung to dry. Generally the design process happens on the fly by pinning it into different shapes on the dummy. Finally it is taken apart and stitched back together with intention to reserve the original buttons and zippers.

This case-by-case approach is time consuming but it results in a garment that is one hundred percent unique.

The Designer

Jacquelyn van Kampen has a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Design from Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands and a Diploma in Pattern Development and Garment Construction for Fashion Design from LaSalle College in Toronto. The former helped to develop a strong understanding of the design process while the latter provided the technical skills to execute quality craftsmanship in the field of fashion.

In 2016, Jacquelyn had the opportunity to do a textile artist residency in The Yukon where her passion for upcycling really flourished. She developed a collection where each piece was made from found, foraged and gifted textiles. Each piece was linked in some way to the unique environment and community.

She currently works from her studio in Elora doing small batch fashion design and creation. Feel free to reach out if you’re in the area and keep an eye on Studio Kampina’s social media for pop up shops and markets.
