Bamboo - Shigeru Uchida Papermoon Lamp PM03
In the 1990s, designer Shigeru Uchida introduced the traditional beauty of Japan to the world through his folding teahouses [Re-an*So-an*Gyo-an], which were exhibited in museums throughout Europe.
Uchida's product designs, created from the perspective of an interior designer, were always based on traditional Japanese beauty and pursued its essence, while keeping an eye on the times.
One such product is Paper Moon, a lighting series that utilizes the technology of Gifu paper lanterns, which have been a specialty of Gifu since the Edo period and were designated as a "traditional craft" by the Japanese government in 1995.
Gifu paper lanterns are handmade by skilled craftsmen using thin, high-quality Mino washi from the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture and bamboo grown in the rich natural environment of Gifu.
Paper Moon is a table lamp/floor lamp with a charming soft form.
The simple and natural form and the gentle light through the washi paper will be familiar to everyone.
The humorous form, reminiscent of rice cakes, bamboo shoots, and gourds, and the texture of the Japanese paper are extremely "Japanese" and at the same time fit in well with any space, regardless of whether it is Japanese or Western.
